How to make sense of ridiculous ideas

I'm an ideas man. In fact, it's one of the reasons why I wanted to start blogging. I just wanted to get thoughts and ideas out into the open. But I must admit not all of my ideas make economic or logistical sense. Some of them are blatantly outrageous. So the question is: how can we make sense of these ridiculous ideas?

In my experience, my ridiculous business ideas tend to come from noticing a gap in a market, or the ability to fill a desire not currently met. One of my most recent logistical nightmare ideas involved melting snow to sell as some sort of luxury bottled water. I mean if Fiji can do it with rare aquifer water, surely I can be able to spin Canadian snow as somehow purer than any other water on the market. Although I will never follow through with this idea, the underlying question was there: what are people willing to pay a premium for?

Likewise, I find that ridiculous ideas do solve the problem, they just might not be feasible. From a solutions standpoint, every business crisis requires some reasonable way to fix it, but the outrageous method suggested may be undoable. This is where critical thinking comes into play. To make sense of this suggestion, one must be able to find the practical nuggets from the impractical solution. It is in this thought process that actual solutions can be developed and refined.

So to conclude, everyone has ridiculous ideas. But, in order to stand apart, one must be able to think rationality and feasibility of these ideas and turn them into practical solutions. It is in doing this that true thinking-out-of-the-box is captured, and manageable actions can be undertaken.
