Have fun. It's such a simple phrase. I tell it frequently when someone is off to work, to run errands, or even going to school. This may sound like I'm mocking others for doing non-fun associated activities, but let me explain what I mean.
Throughout my life, I've tried my best to find the good in people and to find the bright side of unfortunate situations. I feel that in a career, one should do something that they enjoy doing and look forward to doing every day. That is why when friends and family are off to do mundane tasks during the day, I say "have fun". I don't mean "girls just wanna have", or go out and do whatever you want to. Have fun in this sense doesn't mean bunk off and go skiing, but rather try to focus on the enjoyable aspects of the job at hand. In my educational and professional career, I have seen far more success when I focus on the good aspects rather than the bad. I find more success when I use the good bits as motivators rather than the bad ones.
In another way, I like to use the phrase "have fun" to try and get my mindset out of the humdrum of day-to-day life. It can be rather easy to fall into a rut. Whether it's an office job with repetitive tasks, or it's school coursework that never seems to end, I find this rut to be one of the more dangerous places to be in. It can lead to complacency, lack of motivation, and stale idea generation. By "having fun", or looking for the interesting facets of a job or coursework, you can uncover new insights and have more mental breakthroughs.
Finally, I understand that not all situations require a positive outlook, and that not all situations will be able to garner the ability to find breakthroughs and uncover insights. In some instances, it is completely inappropriate to think in such a way. In these instances, one must use good judgement to determine the best way to act and behave.
Overall, I believe that having fun will ready the mindset for positivity when doing mundane tasks. So whatever you are doing today, go out and have fun!
